An elevated covered deck with a full outdoor kitchen creates an elegant outdoor getaway for this home. The cabana with full bar, bath, and washer and dryer adds convenience and ease. This Oakhill, Virginia home originally featured a small wooden deck installed in the grass right off of the house with a miniature pergola and an iron awning frame. We dismantled this structure to build a new covered patio with an outdoor kitchen, pool deck and pool, and a cabana with its own compact patio.
Porch and Deck
The porch and deck area extends from the house, which has a bay window and a bumped-out space outfitted with casement windows to provide a full view of the deck and backyard. An outdoor kitchen, complete with a full range, sink, and gorgeously rustic tile-and-brick backsplash, allows the family to entertain outdoors in nearly every season.
Grey and Tan Flagstone Flooring
All this sits on a floor crafted from gray and tan flagstones of varying sizes. Copper caps top the posts on the deck’s custom white railing, which was designed to complement the home’s traditional architectural details. The polished wooden ceiling is outfitted with custom lighting and a large ceiling fan to keep things cool in hot weather.
Pool Cabana
The cabana, with its shingled pyramid hip roof, opens to a tidy patio complete with a full bar and wide-screen television. Unadorned white columns echo the home’s design features. The patio floor’s flagstones match those in the porch across the pool. Inside, guests can shower in the full bath and leave their wet towels and suits in the washer/dryer area.
Pool and Water Feature
We built the 20’ x 40’ pool with an automatic cover, which provides convenience and a critical safety feature. Swimmers can paddle up to the fire pit to have a conversation with poolside guests or just enjoy the warmth. A unique water feature sprays elegant, curved bursts of water over the pool from one side while a modern, square waterfall pours in from the opposite. Those relaxing on the deck in a comfortable chair can be eased by the relaxing sound of the waterfall while they read, sunbathe, or drift off into a daydream.
