The patio at this Gainesville home is the setting for a fully-stocked outdoor kitchen and spacious seating area. The homeowner really wanted more than just a grill and mini-fridge, so we built an entire brick base and installed a full range, warming drawer, spacious under-counter stainless steel refrigerator, full-size sink, and an imposing stainless steel range hood. What makes this kitchen truly stand out is the massive black-and-white checkerboard backsplash. Set against the distressed cream-colored brick, it makes a statement—one that brings to mind a rustic French bakery or café. The checkerboard tile is repeated on the kitchen’s ample counter space.
Pennsylvania Flagstone Patio
French doors open from the home to the Pennsylvania flagstone patio’s elegant seating area, arranged with mostly off-white furniture and cushions. Here, residents and guests can enjoy dining al fresco straight from the outdoor kitchen. The patio’s coffered ceiling, painted a glossy buff shade, gives the space a polished feel. A complementary ceiling fan keeps fresh air circulating. For additional European flair, impressive Ionic columns support the patio’s roof. Massive carved railing surrounds the patio and leads down the steps to the landscape. Tiled risers add unexpected detail and visual interest to the steps.
