Basement Remodel at Camberley East in Oak Hill, VA
This classic yet quirky Oak Hill basement remodel captures the fun-loving personality of the customer, featuring a fully-stocked arcade and room for sports memorabilia. To create this entertaining hub, we also installed a billiard room and an oak wet bar with a TV hidden behind the mirror. A laundry room with dual washers and dryers will keep sports jerseys squeaky clean for years to come. In order to achieve a cohesive, flowing feel we removed all existing framework and replaced it, also making structural modifications to relocate support columns that affected the layout. We modified all of the existing ductwork to streamline the ceilings and make the room-to-room transitions seamless. Nothing is more important than customizing each space by working with the client and finding out exactly what their needs are. Because the gaming room was so important, we didn’t want to close it off into a room all on its own, so instead we installed the glass doors with oak trim, which divides the interior spaces while keeping an open feel. When choosing a basement floor it’s important to consider what the overall use of the space is. We chose to outfit the floor with large porcelain tiles in a soft sandy color to add a homey aesthetic to the rooms. Because this basement will be a central entertaining area, porcelain tiles were the best choice for standing up to high traffic. Porcelain is both denser and harder than other ceramic tiles, and it’s a hard-wearing material resistant to both scratches and stains. It’s available in a wide variety of colors and can even be designed to replicate natural stone, marble, terra cotta, and even hardwoods and metals. To break up the walls and add more depth we used oak wainscoting throughout the project. All the trim work, doors, and wet bar were created with oak, an extremely durable hardwood perfect for furniture and high-traffic areas. We designed custom oak built-ins around the home theater and also designed display cases specifically for sports memorabilia. The cove lighting and sconce lighting give the rooms a soft glow that perfectly highlights the stained glass lamp above the billiard table. The walls and ceiling are textured and glazed to create a more dimensional look.
